The Camera Grand Prix is held by the Camera Journal Press Club (C.J.P.C. / Japan), and operated by C.J.P.C.’s Camera Grand Prix Executive Committee. C.J.P.C. was established in September 1963, with the purpose of providing its readers with reliable and in-depth stories about the photography industry and photographic equipment. In 2010, C.J.P.C. formed a partnership with TIPA (The Technical Image Press Association), a group of 28 photo and film magazines from 14 countries mainly in Europe, confirming that both groups would collaborate on their awards for mutual development.
The Camera Grand Prix is, since its starting in 1984, considered one of the widely recognized camera awards and a symbolic tribute to the camera industry. This year, a total of 53 individuals voted in the selection of the above awards of the Camera GP 2015. Further, “Readers Award” was selected by general readers’ votes, and “Editors Award” was selected from among all photography-related equipment, judged by C.J.P.C. members. Camera of The Year
Canon EOS 7D Mark II

Reasons for choice
The camera carries considerable numbers of high-level features such as 65-point all-cross-type AF sensors, 10 fps high speed continuous shooting, all of which are equipped in the EOS-1D X, the manufacturer’s flagship model. The camera gains high scores as it allows users comfortable shooting for not only moving objects but also still objects. Additionally, the camera’s flicker-free shooting function, which gives stable exposure under a fluorescent light or mercury lamp, is another innovation.
The camera is the only camera that shows its potential of an APS-C sensor-sized DSLR, and it offers the advantage of an APS-C format with telephoto zoom lenses and continuous shooting functions.
Moreover, the camera draws public attention through a promotion which appeals to the consumer's sense of fascination for a camera by showing seven different kinds of catalogs according to photographic subjects.
As a result of the above considerations, the Camera GP 2015 Camera of the Year goes to Canon EOS 7D Mark II.

Lens of The Yea
Canon EF11-24mm F4L USM

Reasons for choice
This is the world's widest angle ultra-wide zoom lens for 35mm full frame, features no distortion that fisheye lenses would bring. The lens remarkably features state-of-the-art optical and coating technologies to help significantly reduce chromatic aberration, usually bringing concerns of photographers due to its ultra-wide coverage. It delivers sharp images by its high resolution.
As it is the lens with unique specification and perspective, the Camera GP 2015 Lens of the Year goes to Canon EF11-24mm F4L USM.

Readers Award
Canon EOS 7D Mark II

Reasons for choice
The award was established in 2008, in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Camera Grand Prix, and the winners have been selected by general camera users’ votes at a dedicated website. This year, the Canon EOS 7D Mark II won the most votes. Here are some voters’ comments:

- Despite a high-performance DSLR, this model is well-balanced between operability and durability for every photographer from beginners to experts. (male, age 50)

- I think it’s the best of all cameras currently available when it comes to shooting moving subjects including sports and animals. (male, age 57)

- The camera is overwhelming on the market and the whole promotion campaign delivering the charm of the product was really new to me. (male, age 41)

- I think it’s the best camera, standing out from the crowd of cameras in terms of precise description for every scene, continuous shooting, and well-balanced camera system. (male, age 56)

- Since the camera makes it possible for you to materialize 10 fps high speed continuous shooting, I feel that using this camera makes it easier to shoot fast-moving subjects and  produce beautiful pictures with less failure. (male, age 37)

- I think this one is the best camera which makes me focus on taking nice pictures without feeling awkwardness. (female, age 29)

Editors Award
OLYMPUS OM-D E-M5 Mark II

Reasons for choice
To become the right product as the second-generation model of the OLYMPUS OM-D E-M5 MarkU, this camera is designed for focusing in high quality close to that of the company’s flagship, the E-M1, in terms of both functionality and operability. The 5-axis image stabilization and 40MP high resolution mode result in the possibility of high resolution image with a compact lens interchanging camera. In addition, the camera responds to users’ needs with features including dust-and-splash proof structure and low-temperature capability to minus 10 degrees C.
As a result of the above considerations, the Camera GP 2015 Editors Award goes to this product.

Editors Award
Panasonic LUMIX DMC-CM1

Reasons for choice
This is a pocket-sized but substantial compact camera featuring a 1-inch size sensor and single focus lens housed in a smart phone-like body. Despite its thin and small size, the camera is well-positioned as a LUMIX series product and includes the availability of 4K video recording and 4K still images for communication purposes after shooting.
As a result of the above considerations, the Camera GP 2015 Editors Award goes to this product.

Editors Award
Lytro LYTRO ILLUM

Reasons for choice
This camera enables “post-shooting focus adjustment,” which has never been possible before, using light field imaging technology which was first discovered more than 100 years ago. The camera was commercialized so that everyone could enjoy the invention. In addition, people give high marks to the product since it is reasonably priced, easy to use and handle, and very user-friendly including in the usability of its software.
As a result of the above considerations, the Camera GP 2015 Editors Award goes to this product.
